Organisation Description
Fablab Winam is a community-based innovation hub in Kisumu, Kenya, dedicated to empowering young people, women and local entrepreneurs through technology, creativity and practical problem-solving. The organisation provides access to digital fabrication tools, STEAM learning, technical training and mentorship, enabling communities to design solutions that address real social and economic challenges. Through its innovation programmes, youth skills development activities and collaborations with schools, community groups and development partners, Fablab Winam fosters local innovation, digital inclusion and community-driven impact.
Project Scope
This project contributes to Fablab Winam's mission of building sustainable revenue from its fabrication services, including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing and STEM services, by identifying market opportunities and onboarding corporate and local business clients:
• Conducting market research across Kisumu and the wider Western Kenya region to identify businesses requiring prototyping or localised manufacturing.
• Producing a market analysis identifying 3 key industries to target for fabrication services.
• Developing 1–2 pitch decks tailored to corporate and institutional partners.
• Supporting B2B outreach to local startups, engineering firms and educational institutions.
• Helping restructure pricing models and service packages for the lab's equipment and training programmes.
• Building and maintaining a lead list of 30 validated business contacts.
Project Outcomes
• A market analysis report highlighting 3 key industries to target for fabrication services.
• 1–2 professional B2B pitch decks tailored to potential corporate partners.
• A CRM lead list containing 30 validated business contacts.
• Revised service packages and pricing models ready for internal review.
• An outreach log showing engagement activities and recommendations.
Internship Requirements
• Analytical & Research Skills: Ability to conduct market research and synthesise insights into structured reports.
• Commercial Awareness: Interest in B2B sales, service design or revenue models for social enterprises and innovation hubs.
• Writing & Communication: Competence in preparing pitch decks, outreach messages and short briefs.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, especially for presentations, pricing tables and trackers.
• Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with the Fablab Winam team and respond to feedback.
