Project Scope

This project will support TGED Foundation’s climate justice and policy advocacy work by exploring how good governance can strengthen community participation, transparency and accountability in environmental decision-making:

  • Conducting desk research on 2–3 agreed environmental governance themes in Nigeria, such as community participation in environmental decisions, access to environmental information, accountability in public environmental programmes, or the inclusion of women and young people.

  • Reviewing relevant policies, legislation and research relating to the selected themes, identifying their implications for TGED Foundation’s work.

  • Researching examples of good practice in community consultation, environmental accountability and inclusive climate action.

  • Mapping 8–10 relevant civil society organisations, public institutions, community networks or initiatives working on environmental governance and climate justice.

  • Supporting the development or refinement of one programme concept, activity or campaign that helps communities understand and participate in environmental decision-making.

  • Developing 2–3 programme resources, such as policy briefing notes, community participation guides, stakeholder materials or environmental advocacy content.

  • Producing practical recommendations to inform TGED Foundation’s future environmental governance and community engagement activities.

Project Outcomes

  • A concise research report covering 2–3 agreed environmental governance themes.

  • A summary of relevant policies and their implications for community participation, transparency and accountability.

  • A stakeholder map featuring approximately 8–10 relevant organisations, institutions or initiatives.

  • A summary of good-practice approaches to inclusive environmental decision-making and community engagement.

  • A draft concept for one environmental governance programme, activity or campaign.

  • 2–3 draft programme, community education or advocacy resources.

  • A final handover document outlining findings, recommendations and potential next steps.

Internship Requirements

  • Governance & Public Policy Interest: Interest in good governance, accountability, civic participation, environmental policy or climate justice.

  • Research & Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct structured desk research and synthesise information from different sources.

  • Environmental & Social Awareness: Interest in how environmental decisions affect communities, particularly groups whose voices may be underrepresented.

  • Writing & Documentation: Ability to produce concise research reports, briefing notes and accessible programme materials.

  • Academic Background: Students studying politics, political science, international relations, development studies, law, environmental studies or other social sciences may be particularly suited to the role.

  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills and willingness to work with the TGED Foundation team and incorporate feedback.
