Outreach & Audience Research Intern – Nip in the Bud, UK

Organisation Description

Nip in the Bud is a children’s mental health and neurodivergence charity focused on early intervention, particularly for primary-school-aged children. The organisation creates accessible educational resources, including films, fact sheets and podcasts, to help teachers, parents and carers recognise and understand children’s mental health and neurodivergence. Nip in the Bud also works in partnership with other organisations to develop and share educational resources with wider communities.

Project Scope

This project will support Nip in the Bud to better understand and reach its key audiences of parents, carers, teachers and schools. The intern will combine outreach research with structured audience feedback to identify effective channels for increasing awareness and use of the charity’s website and educational resources:

  • Researching and mapping relevant channels for reaching parents, carers, teachers and primary schools across the UK.

  • Identifying 15–20 relevant organisations, networks, directories, professional bodies, parent communities or other outreach channels that could help Nip in the Bud reach its target audiences.

  • Researching relevant school directories and routes through which Nip in the Bud could introduce its resources and training to primary schools.

  • Developing a simple outreach database recording key organisations/channels, contact information where publicly available, audience relevance and recommended next steps.

  • Supporting the development of a short audience feedback survey combining quantitative and qualitative questions about Nip in the Bud’s newly launched website and educational resources.

  • Supporting outreach to appropriate adult participants, such as parents, carers and teachers, to invite feedback on the website and resources.

  • Collating and analysing feedback from the survey to identify common themes, strengths, barriers and areas for improvement.

  • Developing practical recommendations for strengthening Nip in the Bud’s audience outreach and improving how its website and resources meet the needs of parents, carers and education professionals.

Project Outcomes

  • An outreach map identifying 15–20 relevant organisations, networks, directories and channels for reaching parents, carers, teachers and schools.
