Fundraising Intern – Fablab Winam, Kenya

Organisation Description

Fablab Winam is a community-based innovation hub in Kisumu, Kenya, dedicated to empowering young people, women, and local entrepreneurs through technology, creativity, and practical problem-solving. The organisation provides access to digital fabrication tools, STEAM learning, technical training, and mentorship, enabling communities to design solutions that address real social and economic challenges. Through its innovation programmes, youth skills development activities, and collaborations with schools, community groups, and development partners, Fablab Winam fosters local innovation, digital inclusion, and community-driven impact.

Project Scope

The Fundraising Assistant will support Fablab Winam in strengthening its resource mobilisation efforts by identifying funding opportunities, preparing outreach materials, and contributing to donor engagement activities. This role provides practical experience in nonprofit fundraising, partnership development, and communication strategy:

  • Researching 5–10 potential donors, grants, or partnership opportunities relevant to Fablab Winam’s programmes.

  • Assisting in drafting one funding proposal or partnership concept aligned with a specific opportunity.

  • Supporting the development of donor communication templates such as introductory emails or thank-you notes.

  • Helping create one fundraising material, such as a donor brief, capability statement, or short presentation.

  • Contributing to digital outreach by drafting 5–7 social media posts highlighting innovation programmes and funding needs.

  • Assisting in documenting Fablab Winam’s impact stories or project highlights for donor-facing communication.

Project Outcomes

  • A donor research list with 5–10 potential funders or partners identified.

  • One draft proposal or partnership pitch prepared for internal review.

  • A set of donor communication templates created for future engagement.

  • One fundraising asset (brief, presentation, or capability document) developed.

  • 5–7 digital outreach posts drafted to support Fablab Winam’s fundraising efforts.

  • A short reflective report summarising fundraising insights and providing recommendations.

Internship Requirements
