Fundraising Intern – Durian Foundation, Nigeria

Durian Foundation is a registered NGO in Nigeria committed to rural development and poverty alleviation through the empowerment of women. The foundation delivers vocational training, education, agricultural projects, and mindset transformation initiatives, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and fostering community self-reliance. With a strong focus on utilising local resources, Durian promotes social and economic transformation in rural communities while advocating for women’s rights and education.

Project Scope

The Fundraising Intern will support Durian Foundation in strengthening its donor engagement and fundraising pipeline to sustain and scale rural development initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in prospect research, proposal drafting, and donor communication. Responsibilities include:

  • Donor and Grant Research: Identify 8–12 potential donors, grant opportunities, or partners aligned with Durian Foundation’s mission and programmes.

  • Proposal Development: Draft at least one tailored funding proposal or partnership pitch for a relevant donor or grant opportunity.

  • Donor Communications: Assist in creating communication templates including introductory emails, impact updates, and thank-you messages.

  • Fundraising Collateral: Support the development of a one-page donor brief or pitch deck showcasing Durian’s impact in rural communities.

  • Storytelling for Fundraising: Work with the communications team to gather and present at least 3 impact stories of rural women or communities that can be used in fundraising campaigns.

  • Campaign Support: Contribute to donor outreach efforts by drafting 3–5 social media posts highlighting specific fundraising needs and success stories.

Project Outcomes

  • A donor research list featuring 8–12 potential funders or partners.

  • One tailored funding proposal or partnership pitch completed and shared with the team.

  • Standardised donor communication templates developed for future campaigns.

  • A donor-facing one-pager or pitch deck highlighting Durian’s impact.

  • Three rural success stories documented for use in fundraising campaigns.

  • 3–5 social media posts created to amplify Durian’s fundraising efforts.

  • A short reflective report outlining lessons learned and recommendations to strengthen future fundraising activities.

Internship Requirements
