School Farms is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to addressing food insecurity, promoting sustainable agriculture, and empowering young people. The organisation establishes school farms across educational institutions, providing students with hands-on agricultural training, strengthening awareness of sustainable farming practices, and contributing to local food security. By encouraging agribusiness education, School Farms inspires students to view agriculture as a viable career pathway while fostering local economic growth and community resilience. Through its CENS+ framework, School Farms Ghana integrates Climate, Education, Nutrition and Skills development to create practical, community-based learning experiences that support long-term sustainable impact.

Project Scope

The Digital Engagement Officer will support School Farms in building its online presence, telling the story of its school farm programmes, and strengthening community and stakeholder engagement across digital platforms. The role offers practical experience in social media management, photography, content creation, digital storytelling, and communications strategy within a mission-driven organisation.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating and publishing regular social media posts (photos, videos, captions, stories, reels) across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X/Twitter to showcase school farm activities, student achievements, and programme impact.

  • Taking photographs and short videos during farm visits, school activities, and events to build a visual content library for ongoing use.

  • Developing and scheduling a content calendar aligned with key programme milestones, planting/harvest seasons, and CENS+ themes (Climate, Education, Nutrition, Skills).

  • Editing photos and videos into polished, shareable content using tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar apps.

  • Designing simple graphics, flyers, and digital assets to support outreach, events, and campaigns.

  • Drafting newsletters, blog posts, or website updates to keep partners, donors, and the community informed.

  • Monitoring engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments, follower growth, reach) and preparing simple performance reports.

  • Gathering stories, testimonials, and quotes from students, teachers, and farm coordinators to accompany social media posts and photos.

  • Assisting with digital fundraising or awareness campaigns, including donor/partner communication materials.

  • Collaborating with the MEL team to translate programme data and impact stories into accessible, shareable content.

  • Helping maintain consistency in branding, tone, and visual identity across all digital channels.

Project Outcomes

  • A structured content calendar developed and implemented for at least one full programme cycle.

  • A growing library of original social media posts and photographs documenting school farm activities and impact.

  • Increased engagement (followers, reach, or interactions) across School Farms Ghana's digital platforms.

  • At least one completed digital campaign, storytelling series, or content package produced during the placement.

  • Improved consistency in branding, messaging, and visual identity across social media posts and photos.

  • A content/resource bank (photos, templates, graphics, captions) organised for future reuse by the team.

  • A short reflective report outlining learning outcomes, contributions, and recommendations for future digital engagement strategy.

Internship Requirements

  • Interest in digital communications, social media, photography, marketing, storytelling, or community engagement.

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.

  • Basic photography and photo/video editing skills (e.g., smartphone photography, Canva, CapCut, or similar tools).

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X/Twitter).

  • Creativity, attention to detail, and a good eye for visual storytelling.

  • Willingness to learn and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
